Why don't people think cheerleading (or at least Allstar/ Competitive cheerleading) is a sport?

I think, no scratch that, I KNOW that cheerleading is a sport! You have to tumble, dance, be super flexible, lift people up, etc to be a cheerleader! Also, cheerleaders are tough! I'm a base, and I get hit all the time by my fliers and I just keep on going. All bases are like that. Once I got kicked in the neck and I just ignored it! Also, most, if not all cheerleaders are not like the stereotypes. Everyone thinks that cheerleaders are just slutty girls in skimpy outfits that run around and shout annoyingly with pompoms at football games, and then they go bang the football players. That's SO not true! Cheerleaders aren't stupid or slutty. I'd say it's much harder than some "sports" like golf, NASCAR, or bowling. So, with that being said, how could anyone NOT think that cheerleading is a sport?
