What would of you done if this happend too you?
A SCHOOLYARD attack has left a Crestmead student afraid to return to school. The daughter and her father, who wished to remain anonymous, described the attack which took place at Logan Special School on Monday, March 21, as terrifying.“I was outside playing handball when the kid came along,” the girl said. “I said ‘hi' and he then grabbed a branch and at first he hit me with it. Then he threw it down, grabbed me by the neck and started punching me in the jaw.”Now the teen, who has been withdrawn from the school by her father, said she won't return to school while her attacker is still there.“He only got a three day suspension (for the attack),” the girl's father said.“I'm just really disappointed in the education department.”He said he was also notified by the school about the incident at the end of the school day, hours after it occurred, despite it being witnessed by a number of teachers. The incident was reported to police, but the father said they declined to press charges against the student.Crestmead Police Officer-in-Charge Senior Sergeant Robert Mulhern said he couldn't comment specifically about this matter but when it came to juvenile offenders there were a number of things which needed to be looked at, and charging a juvenile with an offence would be a last resort.Department of Education and Training south-east regional director Glen Hoppner said the safety and wellbeing of students was the department's highest priority at all times.“Every state school in Queensland has a responsible behaviour plan for students which clearly sets out the school's expectations for student behaviour and the consequences for students when these expectation are not met,” he said.“In this instance staff acted according to school policy and thoroughly investigated the incident, including taking multiple witness statements.“From these witness statements staff used their judgement to determine the parent did not need to be called immediately.”Mr Hoppner said the student was disciplined in line with the school's responsible behaviour plan.
